Damn it
Buntington, a British newspaperman, got back to London after touring the U.S.
for his paper. His fellow correspondents gathered around him one evening at the
Press Club wanting to learn something about the recreation and amusement of Americans.
"Well," said Buntington, "Americans play a lot of strange games.
There's one called 'Damn it.' "
"No! It couldn't be!" exclaimed a newsman.
"Yes, it's true. It's played in auditoriums. Hundreds of people fill
the seats and have small numbered cards on their laps. A man on stage calls out
a lot of numbers, and finally one person jumps up and shouts 'Bingo!' Then all
the others exclaim, 'Damn it!' "
